Weathered Steps

Weathered Steps

Our steps, weathered by Pain, bear memories held together with crumbling mortar.  Our steps, weathered with Beauty, bear dreams cracked in searing sun.  They experience unwelcome comings and heartbreaking goings.  Feel feet stand, knees pray, and bottoms sit, in the midst.  Of Pain.  And of Beauty.

They are stained, with wine and tears... and pee; leaving marks of loneliness and grief... and despair.  They burn, with whiskey and laughter... and song;  spreading ashes of friendship and hope... and joy.   They see fallings down, gettings up,  leaps of faith, and trips in doubt.  And both remain, Pain and Beauty.  Here.  Where they lead.  The front porch.  Of our home.   And our life.  Where once inside that front door, we live.  Bearing Pain. Bearing Beauty.  Inside this home and in this life, where the two collide.

Up and down these steps of our home and our life, we live.  Out on this front porch and behind a closed door and along this bumpy path.  Of our story.  Of a home and a life, so interrelated it is impossible to identify where one stops and the other begins.  Commingled, salt and water.  Mixed together so that they can never again be taken apart.  We are - our home and our life - planted together, in one seed.  A seed that gives birth.  To a story.  A story baring Pain.  A story baring Beauty.

These weathered steps lead where paths grow, air carries, floors feel, windows see, walls hold, stones remember, and porches release.  These weathered steps perch where a hill lifts a home, that speaks.  A family, being restored.  A story, to endure.

Thank you for joining us here.  Really.  We thank you.  It means a lot to us that you're here.  Please, bring a friend.  To our weathered steps.  Where we will sit, together, for a while, sometimes in the midst of Pain and other times in the midst of Beauty.  Here.  Where the two  meet.

On these weathered steps, that lead us home.  Where we live, here, in...
